We always say any publicity is good publicity. And whilst it may hold true for most cases, there is always a clear loser in the situation. Singer-turned-actor Liu Yuning recently shed some light on some of the shadier practices production companies and fan clubs get around to when it comes to hyping up an upcoming project. He should know. He reveals how he found himself on the losing end of fake news all in the name of drawing up some buzz and luring in fans for a new drama.

Putting Out “Fake” Casting News for Publicity

In one of his recent live broadcasts, The Story of Pearl Girl star refuted new rumours of him supposedly signing on for a new drama. “Don’t listen to such nonsense” he cautioned. It turns out this is a pretty common tactic companies resort to, where they have already cast an actor for a male lead role yet they know the person they cast is “not too good” so they put out “fake” casting news. He said the company will let slip that “oh Liu Yuning is going to star in this”. Anti-fans specifically targeting him will then have a field day bashing him and saying he doesn’t deserve to be cast. When the verbal abuse will reach its peak in a day or two, the company would then come out to “clarify” that it isn’t Liu Yuning but someone else, before announcing another actor.

Poor Liu Yuning couldn’t help but lament how “they just used him as the first target”. And then, they still had the nerve to look down on me after dropping me. That he said was the most unbearable thing. Even worst is how when the person they cast wasn’t as good as him yet they still talked him down. Liu Yuning said there’s no way out of the situation unless you’re no longer in the entertainment circle.
