Daylight Entertainment’s slice of life series Romance in the Alley 小巷人家 is coming to screens sooner than soon with the series. It is set to premiere October 28, 2024 on Hunan TV and Mango TV. In recent years, retro-themed nostalgic works have gained favour amongst audiences who like to think back fondly on the good ol’ days and reminisce how life was simpler back then. If this sounds like something up your alley (pun intended), a story filled with warmth and humour mirroring the times might just be the thing.
Romance in the Alley Synopsis
Set in the late 70s, a time of economic reform and social change, the story follows the lives of the Zhuang, Lin and Wu families who live in a small alley in the Suzhou cotton mill housing estate. As the changing times bring about earth shaking changes in society – from the resumption of the college entrance exams and the return of educated kids to the city, it also redefines the fates of the three families and their children residing in the alley. Along with fast paced changing of the times, never has the warmth of family and the camaraderie of friendship in their little alley been more important.
Whilst the older generation deals with more practical “issues” such as surviving with very limited resources, the entanglements of the younger generation is no less exciting. The friendship and romantic entanglement between Zhuang Tunan (Fan Chengcheng), his sister Zhuang Xiaoting (Guan Xiaotong) and her secret romance with Tunan’s good friend Lin Dongzhe (Wang Anyu) will keep viewers on their toes as Zhuang Tunan pulls the brother’s best friend card and hilariously tries to break them up. Whether he succeeds or gives up remains to be seen.
Adapted from the novel of the same name written by Da Mi, the retro period drama features a bevy of familiar names occupying leading and supporting roles. From veteran actress Yan Ni, Li Guangjie, Guo Xiaodong, Jiang Xin, Fan Chengcheng, Guan Xiaotong and Wang Anyu to Lu Yuxiao, Shi Yunpeng, Zhou Jieqiong , Li Qian and Zhang Ruihan.
