Now that is one unconventional show! Imagine a reality show that brings together three couples on the brink of divorce and then forcing them on a road trip together as a last ditch effort. It is said that travelling as a couple can either make or break relationships. Whilst it’s a chance to strengthen the relationship, it can also work otherwise, revealing differences you certainly didn’t expect. In the latest episode of See You Again 再见爱人, it appears even a road trip couldn’t help to save Eva Huang Shengyi and husband Yang Zi’s (杨子) marriage.
A Troubled Past Behind Their Family Image
Eva Huang Shengyi was among the sought-after Chinese actresses in her heyday, having started out as a Sing Girl (actresses in Stephen Chow’s films). In 2007, she got married to actor-producer-businessman Yang Zi and they have two kids – sons Andy and Anlin. While they have a seemingly blissful public image, it turns out their marriage has long faced challenges. On the show, they revealed that they have been living separately and had split several times in the past.

Irreconcilable Differences on Display in Their Reality Show
To be fair, judging solely from their interactions on the show, the couple seem to be polar opposites who don’t have much in common. Aside from differing opinions, they also have a problem communicating with each other. Viewers pointed out how Yang Zi constantly bossed Huang Shengyi around and would often talk down to her in a condescending manner. Likewise, his wife couldn’t hide her frustration at her husband’s arrogance in the show sharing she could not tolerate Yang’s “father-like management” style. Yang Zi was born on June 18, 1975, while Huang Shengyi was born on February 11, 1983, making him eight years older.
Huang Shengyi and Yang Zi have been married for 17 years already and it seems years of conflicts and dissatisfaction has taken its toll on their relationship. In fact, the 41-year-old actress didn’t hold back when she frankly said she couldn’t wait to get out of her marriage as she’d already “endured for 17 years”. Unlike the other couples who no longer want to divorce, Huang Shengyi remained adamant about wanting to divorce. Whereas husband Yang Zi initially voted no to divorce the first time around, he ultimately voted yes when it was readily obvious that they’d already began quarrelling at the start of the show!
Eva Huang Shengyi rose to fame after first appearing on Stephen Chow’s Kung Fu Hustle. Some of her representative works include the TV adaptation of Louis Cha’s Sword Stained with Royal Blood, and the 2011 film The Sorcerer and the White Snake with Jet Li.
