Cantopop singer Remus Choy is a member of the Hong Kong band Grasshopper. Last month, the 57-year-old was noticeably absent from Grasshopper’s US concerts leaving only bandmates Calvin Choy and Edmond So to do the show. Now, we finally know the reason why. In a recent social media post, Remus revealed he just had surgery to remove a tumor from his brain.
“After extensive professional diagnosis, his doctors believe Remus Choy is not in the condition to make any public performances nor should he be in public spaces with a crowd at the moment” was the statement previously given by the band to explain away his absence. At the time, rumours had also been running rife that his condition was pretty serious and that he really had no choice but to cancel.

“I just had surgery to remove a brain tumour. The surgery went pretty smoothly. I want to take this opportunity to thank my family for their unending support and encouragement” he wrote. Remus Choy also gave a big shout out to his two band mates for stepping in for him during their concert in the US. “Thank you to my two brothers for their hard work in the US during my surgery.”
Positive Vibes
Meanwhile, big bro Calvin perhaps alluding to his brother’s situation also shared a very upbeat post on social media just the day prior to Remus’ revelation. With a photo showing himself working out, he wrote: “there are only three four steps to do when faced with any problem. #Accept #MeetHead-On #Solve #BravelyBeYourself”
As comments of well wishes and speedy recovery flooded in, Remus told everyone not to worry. The days ahead are definitely looking up and that he will continue to sing, dance and have fun. Meanwhile, Calvin said the best thing to do for now would be not to disturb him so that he can rest, a sentiment fellow Grasshopper member Edmond also echoed so that he’ll be back on his feet real soon.
