
Taiwanese actor Tiger Wang Chien-ming (汪建民) passed away on October 7, 2024 at age 56, following a long battle with lung cancer. His sister shared the heartbreaking news on social media, expressing gratitude to friends, medical staff, and Tiger Wang’s girlfriend, Joan, for their support during his final months. His family also asked for privacy during this difficult time.
Tiger Wang who started acting in 1990 has played roles in a number of dramas. He is perhaps best known as the tough police officer “Iron Head” in the 1998 TV series Taiwan Ghost Stories (台灣靈異事件), which gained a dedicated fan base and was dubbed the “Taiwanese X-Files.” The actor who’s also known fo his comedic talents often guested on the talk show Kangxi Coming.

His later years were challenging due to financial struggles, including being caught up in fellow entertainer Peng Cha Cha’s debt scandal in 2019. In 2022, it was reported that Tiger had gone missing; however, he eventually came forward to discuss his debts and his efforts to repay them. After being diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer, Tiger Wang, initially responded to treatment and saw progress. He had hoped that people would not keep asking about his health, and to just cheer “jiayou” for him. Many sent their condolences at the passing of yet another familiar figure in the industry.
