What a Wonderful World 在人间 is full of suspense as it sets the tone with its distinctively darker visual style. Just perfect for the puzzling mystery that awaits viewers.
Dreams or Reality? The Mysterious World of Jia Xiaoduo
What a Wonderful World opens with Jia Xiaoduo – Zhao Liying’s character, saying she often had a dream, one that was exactly the same each time. Then quick as a wink, flashes of different people come on the screen before panning back to Xiaoduo stepping off of the building and plunging down into … a body of water? So was that yet another dream and why was it showing Jia Xiaoduo stepping off the building in a creepy building complex? Or could it all be just a product of her mind? So many questions that need to be answered yet the intrigue doesn’t end there as other characters come into play.
What a Wonderful World Cast
Actor Yin Fang co-stars in the series as Xu Tian who like Jia Xiaoduo also has his own secrets. Seemingly “lost” and lonely, he meets Jia Xiaoduo through a ride-hailing app where he works as a driver and her as his passenger. Then there’s also the frowning Shi Yiben played by Zhou Yiwei, the worry wart Wang Yangming portrayed by Zhang Yishan, Dong Zijian as the paranoid Yu Dan and Sun Qian as Liu Tiaoer. Each character appears at different moments, adding another layer of complexity to an already confusing story.
With just eight episodes to it, What a Wonderful World is part of streaming giant iQiyi’s initiative to rollout dramas in a much shorter format. It is expected to air in 2025.
