Late Singer Leslie Cheung’s Then Partner Shuts Down New Romance and Surrogacy Rumors

Hong Kong superstar Leslie Cheung passed away on April 1, 2003, leaving behind his then partner, Daffy Tong. For over 20 years, Tong has publicly mourned Cheung on his death anniversary and birthday. Recently, the late singer’s fans questioned Tong over rumors suggesting he has a new, male partner who’s 30 years younger than him and children born via surrogacy. These rumors led to Cheung’s fans accusing Tong of exploiting Cheung’s memory.

On July 18, Daffy Tong responded to the rumors via social media. The 65-year-old clarified that he lives alone, that his rumored partner is just a friend and that he has no children born via surrogacy. Tong expressed regret for causing confusion and distress among Cheung’s fans, vowing to reflect on his actions. However, he refuted the rumors, stating that he had moved out of the home he shared with Leslie Cheung over a decade ago and has been living alone since. As for the rumored relationship with Mr. Shi, they are “friends without commitments,” each living independently. He also denied using a surrogate to have children, clarifying that the children seen in photos are friends’ kids and he’s more of a grandfather to them.

Finally, he emphasized, “I have always treated my family and friends with sincerity throughout my life. If my actions have caused any disrespect, I deeply apologize and bow to express my profound regret.” Meanwhile, netizens also left comments that it’s been so many years and it’s normal for Daffy Tong to have his own life.
