South Korean actor Koo Kyo-hwan and director Lee Ok-seop have been married since four years ago as the couple registered their marriage in 2022. Koo Kyo-hwan’s agency, Namoo Actors, confirmed that the two have been in a long-term relationship built on mutual trust and support, and have become husband and wife. Both Koo Kyo-hwan and Lee Ok-seop graduated from Seoul Institute of the Arts. They worked together on the 2013 South Korean indie short film A Dangerous Woman, and their relationship developed into a romantic one. After nearly nine years of dating, they only revealed their relationship in 2020.
Koo Kyo-hwan worked his way up, starring in indie films and small supporting roles before earning early acclaim for his acting. He finally found commercial success through roles such as D.P. and Once We Were Us, also known as the Korean remake of Us and Them.
Many are happy for the longtime couple who are described as not only close colleagues but also each other’s closest family. They did not hold a wedding ceremony and reportedly do not plan to have one in the future. Some have now dug up a past remark from a program where Lee Ok-seop was a guest, in which she was told, “I don’t think you two are having much fun as a couple,” followed by, “I don’t think you want to get married.” In hindsight, the comments feel rather amusing, considering the famously low-key couple had already quietly built a sweet and enduring marriage.
