“The Early Spring” Announces Sequel, Sparking Jing Boran and Sun Qian Reunion Hopes

The Early Spring sequel (盛夏晴朗) has officially been announced and fans are calling for Jing Boran and Sun Qian to reunite for a second drama. With the massive success of The Early Spring, not just in China but internationally as it ranked second on Netflix’s global Top 10 list for non-English TV series, it’s no surprise that its platform Youku immediately announced a sequel just as the show wrapped its run.

As part of its 2027 lineup, Youku has released the concept poster for its newest project that follows the same visual style as its predecessor. The original creative team is also confirmed to return.

The Early Spring screenwriter Gao Yixian will be writing the sequel, but this time it will be an original screenplay. It’s said to be a continuation of the story of Luan Nian and Shang Zhitao after they get married. Given that The Early Spring is based on a novel and how the two leads portrayed the subtle tension and push-and-pull of adult romance incredibly well, many wonder if it will be possible to bring back the same magic.

Nevertheless, the internet is calling for Jing Boran and Sun Qian to reunite with the corresponding hashtag trending on Chinese social media. To make it even more official, the social media accounts for both characters also shared the poster. Luan Nian says, “Sheng Xia, there’s no ice sculpture.” Shang Zhitao Flora says, “I told you it wouldn’t end.” Luke says, “As long as I’m here, this family won’t fall apart.” Unfortunately, the cast has not been announced yet, so whether the original ensemble will return or we’ll have an entirely new lineup remains to be seen.
