Lin Muran has gained attention for his portrayal of Sui Yuanqing in the hit drama Pursuit of Jade. What surprised many is that the actor, who’s only 20, has been in the industry for most of his life. Lin Muran started working at just one year old. He’s accumulated extensive acting experience as a child actor, which has now earned him praised as one of the most promising actors of the post-2005 generation. However, he’s drawn flak over what many believe is the wrong decision for the actor’s education.
From University to Vocational College
Recently, the actor sparked heated discussion on social media due to a public notice issued by Hunan Vocational College of Art, which stated that Lin Muran, a student at Central Academy of Drama, had applied to transfer to their school. The stated reason was special family difficulties, including the need to care for his elderly grandparents nearby. Given that the Central Academy of Drama is regarded as one of China’s most prestigious arts institutions, transferring from such a top university to a vocational college comes as a surprise. Others even speculated that Lin Muran’s intensive filming schedule may have conflicted with his academic requirements, making it difficult for him to complete his studies, which is why he had to transfer.
Lin Muran had been admitted to the Central Academy of Drama as the national top scorer. Considering the strong emphasis on higher education and academic credentials in China, many argued that abandoning his studies for fame would be shortsighted and has called on his team to make the right choice.
Amid the backlash, Lin Muran’s side later responded that all transfer procedures had been completely halted. The statement is as follows, “In response to recent concerns regarding the artist’s academic situation, we would like to clarify: The previously discussed transfer arrangements have been completely suspended. We will continue to coordinate the artist’s professional development and academic commitments while steadily planning future arrangements. The team will continue to support the artist’s growth and development. Thank you for your concern and rational attention.”
Meanwhile, Lin Muran is also set to play the assassin Han Mingxi in the upcoming drama The First Jasmine. His character harbors feelings for the female lead portrayed by Bai Lu.

he doesnt need the central academy’s prestige. he’s prestigious in and of himself. wherever he goes, his fame and clout will follow. central academy should be the one begging for him to stay. he’s a veteran actor. not some noob. he should be a professor there at this point

I don’t see the problem if it is true that he wanted to transfer because of wanting/needing to be with his grandparents as a caregiver. That’s crazy though that it was the transfering college that publically spread that while he was planning to transfer but hadn’t yet. That college’s publicity department opened their mouths to boast (probibly thinking to gain more students/prestige) and instead turned the public against them and lost the incoming student. He should rethink transfering to a college that doesn’t respect the privacy of its students. Are leave-of-absences for a few months or so allowed in China? Are his parents unable to caretake for the elderly so that they wanted a working and attending school student to do it? I know circumstances can be brutal but if the reason he gave is unresolved he may regret not being there for his grandparents if that is truely what he felt he needed to do.

We don’t know his family circumstances so if it’s best for his family, then let him be. There’s too much elitism when it comes to schooling in China. However, I will say that CAD does have strong alumni network so it’s better for his career to stick it out another 2 years.

Sacrificing for your family noble … but again should his agency not be managing this well ? His career is just taking off … he may get side tracked by this. So if they can help with this somehow it makes more sense then him going to vocation school

Guys who are talking about family sacrificing, that was just an excuse he gave to his new school because he have come up with something, and I am quitting school for fame is a lame excuse, i dont think he needs the prestigious school but it will indeed create a better image for him since chinese really care about ,look to all artist who graduate from humble schools, they are still called “uneducated” every time they make a mistake ,like Lusi and Bai Lu and Wang
