Chinese actor Joseph Zeng Shunxi, who began his career as a member of Fresh Geek Boy Band with Hou Minghao, faces another legal battle with his former agency BG Talent. The actor first signed with the agency in 2014 after participating in a talent show about becoming a trainee under Chinese singer-songwriter Shang Wenjie. Shang Wenjie was the legal representative of BG Talent, and its affiliate has filed a lawsuit against Zeng Shunxi over an alleged dispute concerning liability for damage to the company’s interests. The case is scheduled to be heard at a Shanghai court on October 28, 2026.
It can be remembered that their legal troubles started long ago. In 2021, Zeng Shunxi sued Black Gold Talent over unpaid shares of his entertainment-related earnings. The actor won the case even after a second appeal and successfully terminated his contract. The company was ordered to pay approximately RMB 15 million in revenue sharing. The new case five years later has once again placed the two celebrities at the center of discussion.
Meanwhile, Zeng Shunxi studio issued a statement addressing the dispute. The studio emphasized that the previous contract dispute had already been resolved through a final court judgment in 2021. According to the statement, an affiliate of BG Talent has now filed another lawsuit concerning what they believe are matters that had already been concluded. The studio believes that the lawsuit lacks both factual and legal grounds and appears to constitute an abuse of the right to sue. They hope that the public refrain from believing or spreading unverified information. Zeng Shunxi studio said it will respond to the lawsuit and support the actor in protecting his lawful rights and interests.

Shang Wenjie is suing Zeng Shunxi through this branch company because she claims that she wasn’t responsible for the business decisions that her co-founding company’s partner, Nie Tao (who went to jail for embezzlement and other crimes) made and she (although the spokesperson, co-founder and face of the company) wants to get revenge for the damage done to her company when the courts found her company liable for not paying Zeng Shunxi for his work.
The ‘damage to the company’s interests’ is that the previous court trial TWICE found that her company wasn’t paying him his contractual wages (around 15 million RMB over the 7 years of unpaid work). He won and the court ordered her company to pay him while the court also nulled his contract (since she wasn’t paying him than the contract was void).
He had to have another trial to force compliance later because they only paid him around 3 million and told him to be satisfied with that after the 7 years of work he’d hadn’t been paid for. Second lawsuit found her company still liable and forced compliance (as in, the courts saw the company had the money but just wasn’t going to pay him).
So now she’s started a branch company with the same name as the previous company and is stating that her new branch has been harmed from the payment by her old same-named company to him.
TLDR: Basically, Shang Wenjie is an ass; wanted slaves not workers and is upset that the courts demand she move into the current century and pay her workers.
Side note: she spent a pretty penny suing previous employees for calling her an ‘evil boss’ and ‘vampire capitalist’ online.
My opinon: if she wants to sue someone for ‘harming the company’s interests’ than she should sue her co-partner; he’s the one who embezzled funds. But she’ll get nothing from him so she’s targeting Zeng Shunxi because he has some money now and she’s bitter and malicious.
