Wang Xiaohui, who drew attention for playing Ye Shurou in the film Dear You: Love Letter to Grandma, has taken several steps that suggest she may have changed her mind about staying out of Chinese showbiz to pursue being an actress after all. This is because she has finally joined Weibo and also listed herself as “actress” on her social media accounts.
She Didn’t Have Plans to Enter the Industry
Wang Xiaohui worked as an illustrator before being cast in Dear You, the first role for her and most of her cast mates. On playing a role that’s supposed to be very beautiful, the newbie actress admitted that she was initially worried she wouldn’t be able to live up to it. She also didn’t enter the entertainment industry because she never thought of it, nor prepared for it. Following the film’s unexpected success, Wang Xiaohui had repeatedly said that she had no immediate plans to pursue acting. She reportedly turned down approaches from several talent agencies, citing concerns about her appearance, her lack of professional training and the potential loss of privacy that could come with becoming a public figure.
However, her attitude has softened as of late. During her birthday in August, her message to herself was to not reject new experiences in life. She went viral after attending the Venice International Film Festival with the Dear You cast and more recently, caught attention at CCTV’s Mid-Autumn Festival program. Wang Xiaohui said she tends to be cautious when making decisions, but reiterated that life should include new experiences and that she was open to trying something different.
Her comments reignited discussion among viewers about whether it meant that the newcomer would indeed be pursuing acting professionally. For now, however, Wang has not announced a contract with any entertainment agency though there are rumors that she has signed with Easy Entertainment. Her new Weibo account has simply been used for promotional activities for Dear You.
