The 79-year-old star recently took to her social media Stories to share a poster for the actor’s upcoming drama Revenge, adding the caption, “Can’t wait 🦢,” along with a compliment calling him “awesome.”
This is not the first time the music icon has publicly praised the actor. With the global success of his drama The Pursuit of Jade, Smith left a comment on his Instagram, writing, “He has incredible depth 👏.” The interaction caught attention, with some describing it as one of the most unusual celebrity crossovers ever. Patti Smith has also previously shown appreciation for other Chinese actors. Last year, she left a comment on Wang Xingyue’s Instagram post where the actor said goodbye to his charaacter in the 2025 Chinese drama Perfect Match. She wrote, “A great show, you are a wonderful artist,” prompting him to respond with a thank you and to say that it’s a honor. I think its cute that she shows her appreciation! I don’t think its so odd to appreciate the art of other cultures. My grandparents exposed me to Japanese Samurai shows as a child and later friends got me into K-dramas. I wandered my own way into C dramas when there wasn’t anything interesting in any of my streaming services.
