Chinese actress Peng Xiaoran faced criticism during a recent livestream over her outfit and accidental exposure. The 35-year-old star wore a gray knit halter top with an open-back. Many of her fans were concerned since the slightest movement could result in a wardrobe malfunction, with comments such as “be careful”, “watch the camera angle” or “change your outfit”, taking attention away from the livestream. There were also complaints over the camera briefly capturing an angle that exposed some sideboob.
Peng Xiaoran thanked her followers during the broadcast and explained that the outfits had appeared fine during fitting when she was standing still and didn’t realize the potential problems with multiple cameras on her. Her studio subsequently issued an apology, acknowledging their shortcomings and failure to protect the artist. They promised corrective measures, including camera-position rehearsals and real-time monitoring by on-site staff during future livestreams and offline events. They also assured that they have dealt with the disputed footage and are tightly regulating the spread and re-uploading of the inappropriate clips to minimize the negative impact. A hashtag about it also trended on Chinese social media.
Meanwhile, in response to criticism accusing Peng Xiaoran of deliberately “pushing the boundaries” for buzz, her studio hit back at what it described as malicious speculation and rumors. The studio said it had begun preserving evidence of content that’s allegedly stirring up controversy and would pursue legal action.
