Given the controversy behind the use of AI actors and stars being included in an AI database, the 41-year-old actress has become the first celebrity in mainland China to authorize the regulated use of her likeness. Alongside the announcement, she released a teaser for the AI drama Endless Summer Apocalypse (末日盛夏) that features her character. However, the promotional video quickly drew backlash due to its opening sequence, which uses a low-angle shot looking upward from beneath Han Qingxia’s skirt. The camera even pauses momentarily before continuing to pan upward.
Many criticized the shot for creating a voyeuristic feel and accused the production of relying on sexually suggestive camera angles to attract attention. They questioned why such a perspective was necessary in a post-apocalyptic story where Han Qingxia is introduced as a powerful female protagonist fighting for survival.
Meanwhile, Qi Wei had previously explained her decision to venture into AI. She said, “I handed over my face, my voice, and even my soul. They weren’t stolen, I personally signed the authorization… While everyone else is busy sending legal notices, I chose to break myself down into code and rebuild myself.
