Call Me by Fire 2026 has just announced its 28-member lineup joining the show this season. Considering the success of Ride the Wind 2026, its female equivalent, anticipation is high as the show also adopts a live singing format to showcase raw talent.
The cast is once again a diverse mix from acting, singing, rap, musical theater, and idol backgrounds, including stars like Chinese singer Sun Nan, Hong Kong actor Shawn Yue, comedian Xiao Shenyang and actor Zhang Binbin. Chinese actor Shao Bing joins alongside his 22-year-old son, Shao Ziheng, an idol who debuted as part of the Chinese-Korean boy group POLARIX, marking the first father-son pairing in the show’s history.
The new season also introduces physical fitness challenges where contestants must compete in strength and endurance tests to earn the right to choose songs, significantly increasing the importance of physical ability in the competition. UPDATE: Shao Bing has withdrawn from the show due to health reasons.

I hope the program is reasonable with the assigned physical tasks. There’s been too many Asian variety shows that seriously harm or even kill contestants in China with ludicrus physical stunts that aren’t necessary at all (RIP Godfrey Gao).
I don’t understand the point of these tasks in the first place; a singer just needs to sing well – not be a triathlete or a Strongman contestant. If they want soldiers instead of singers than just make a talent show selection from the army.
Didn’t Sisters That Makes Waves have some nonesense about grueling outdoor shoot conditions, physical exhaustion, and injuries? Do Chinese singers really need to demonstrate super soldier fitness? I don’t want Sun Nan to be killed because they wanted him to run 10 miles with a 50 lb backpack or some such nonesense!

That Godfrey Gao incident was wrong on so many levels. The tasks were extreme already, but they were also forced to do grueling hours. If I remember correctly, by the time the incident occurred, he was already filming for almost 20 hours and it was like 2am at night. I don’t know how true, but I also read that a witness said that the onsite paramedics were also slow to get to him. Producers probably didn’t realize how serious it was and thought they could film some dramatic event for their show.

I don’t understand how anyone would greenlight such obviously dangerous conditions. Those people should be in jail.
