Xueye, 19, Introduced in Stephen Chow's Kung Fu Soccer

Stephen Chow has introduced 19-year-old newcomer Xueye as the latest “Sing Girl”. It marks the first time in seven years that the filmmaker and former actor has unveiled a new female artist. The announcement was made through Chow’s longtime manager, Ricky Chan Chun-yu, coinciding with the nationwide release of Chow’s latest film, Kung Fu Soccer. The sports comedy opened to an impressive first-day box office of more than RMB2 billion despite mixed reviews. Some praised the film for retaining Stephen Chow’s signature comedic style; others criticized the film as capitalizing on nostalgia.

Born in 2007, Xueye had no prior acting experience before landing the role. According to reports, she was discovered by Stephen Chow’s team while vacationing in Hong Kong with her parents. After signing on, she underwent more than a year of martial arts and football training while her identity was kept under wraps. In Kung Fu Soccer, Xueye plays a character who shares her name. She’s the hidden ace of Emei women’s football team, gifted with extraordinary martial arts-inspired football skills. The role features minimal dialogue, relying heavily on expressions and gestures.

Stephen Chow’s company is said to be planning a long-term career for Xueye in other upcoming productions. She received a special introduction in the film’s credits, highlighting her role as the latest addition to Stephen Chow’s long line of “Sing Girls.” Many have commented that she seems to resemble young actress Ai Mi.
