62-year-old Hong Kong actor Lawrence Ng (Ng Kai Wah) was recently promoting his new drama when he revealed that he’s ventured into AI. He has licensed the rights to his likeness for an AI-generated movie, in which producers will recreate him as he looked at 20 years old. In his words, “It lets me relive what it feels like to be a leading man again.”
Lawrence Ng said: “I just signed one (movie). They’re using what I looked like 40 years ago, when I was 20, to make a film. They showed me a bit of footage, it looks really good, and I’m very satisfied. The pay is pretty good too.” When asked whether he’s worried that AI could replace real actors, Lawrence laughingly added: “I just hope the movie does well. In the future, I can just sit here, no need to film anything. It’ll all be done for me.” He joked, “Even if I broke my leg, I wouldn’t have to worry.” He later explained that he sees AI filmmaking as another avenue for development, saying it’s different from filming with real people. Lawrence Ng said he has already signed a contract, so he’s not worried about the producers using his likeness for other films without permission.
