On July 16, Chinese actress Bai Lu, 31, has announced her departure from Huanyu Film after 10 years with the agency. In a long statement, she expressed gratitude to producer Yu Zheng, who discovered her, as well as her colleagues, saying the decade-long journey transformed her from an inexperienced young woman into an actress seen by people.
Bai Lu Now an Independent Artist
Bai Lu’s exclusive contract with Huanyu Film has expired, with both sides confirming they had parted ways on good terms. She described Yu Zheng as the person who “gave a young person with nothing the key to unlock the door of destiny,” while referring to Huanyu Film as a “companion” rather than simply a management company. She also expressed her appreciation to Huanyu executives Yang Le (“Sister Le”), Ma Jie, and everyone she had worked with over the years. She thanked them for their guidance in choosing projects, helping shape her career, and supporting her through periods of anxiety and self-doubt, allowing her to focus on what she loves most, which is acting.
She also shared a heartfelt message for her loyal fanbase, Bai Lu’s fandom known as “Lurong (鹿茸 deer antler)”. Looking ahead, Bai Lu expressed confidence about the future. “I don’t want to set off with uncertainty, but with a clear intention to embrace new challenges. I’m willing to try new roles, new ways of expression, and adapt to a new pace. Leaving now is, in fact, another way of continuing.”
Yu Zheng and Her Agency Respond in Kind
Yu Zheng later responded with an emotional message, saying he felt as though he was “marrying off a daughter.” He praised Bai Lu and his artists, emphasizing that they have always conducted themselves with integrity. He admitted that he used to become very sad when someone leaves, unable to understand why someone he had given 100% to would still leave, but he’s now realize it’s part of the journey and natural for someone to want to spread their wings and fly higher. He also said his relationship with Bai Lu is not something a piece of contract can destroy, while asking fans and the public to continue supporting and caring for her. Huanyu Film also reposted Bai Lu’s farewell message with the caption: “Ten years, one journey. May your passion always remain, and may your path continue to bloom.”
Following the split, Bai Lu updated her Weibo profile to “Bai Lu Studio,” her company reportedly established in 2021. Bai Lu is already preparing for her next project after going independent. She is expected to begin filming the upcoming drama Kai Dao Tu Mi (开到荼蘼), an urban romance mystery adapted from a novel by Yi Shu.

Good for her! I wish her well; I only know her from Keep Running but I like her personality. I’ve read others say that she should try different roles; it sounds like that’s what she wants too. I hope whomever keeps running smear campaigns against her over trivial stuff stops. I’ve read she’s got a bad back from action filming and illneses left over from when she had to wear short clothes in the wintertime for fashion shoots; hopefully she can take care of her health more now. Blessings!

This has been in the works for some time hasn’t it?

Of course ! All contracts have an end date and one must prepare for that day. It would be extremely foolish to only start preparing for your next steps the day the contract expires.

I read that her filming with Wang Xingyue was one of the conditions he had to let her go even though she didnt like the script

Give 100% and take 100%, she brings enough money to the company, why acting as a victim when ur 100% is no longer enough for ur artist, it is just business
