Following the death of his ex-wife, Frances Shi Ming, veteran Hong Kong actor and celebrity chef Steve Lee Ka-ding became caught in a bitter family dispute as his elder son, Augustine Lee, and younger son, Gregory Lee, who are twins, turned against each other. Augustine alleges that his younger brother is controlling their father and took their father’s money. Steve Lee alleges that it’s his eldest son who took advantage of him financially for years, draining his savings to care for his own family and delaying news of Frances Shi Ming’s death until after receiving additional financial support. Things have escalated with both sides exchanging accusations.
After staying out of the public eye for nearly a month, Hong Kong media reports that Steve Lee has now resurfaced and given an exclusive interview. According to reports, the 80-year-old is in much better spirits, greeting people in his trademark booming voice with, “Grandpa is back!” However, he admitted that the ongoing family conflict had pushed him into one of the lowest points of his life. He described the situation as extremely distressing and said it had left him emotionally exhausted.
When the topic turned to his elder son, Augustine Lee, Steve Lee became visibly upset. According to the interview, he repeatedly cursed and criticized Augustine both on and off camera, expressing intense anger toward him. In an emotional statement, Steve Lee publicly announced that he was severing ties with his elder son. Speaking firmly, he declared: “From 8:10 p.m. on May 29, 2026, Lee Wing-hon (Augustine) is no longer my son. Whatever happens to him has nothing to do with me.”
Steve Lee explained that he had begun considering this decision after the death of Shi Ming. When asked whether he would forgive Augustine if he sought reconciliation, Lee responded sadly that there was no point asking “what if” now, adding that he would never forgive him. He further stated that even if Augustine encountered difficulties in the future, he would no longer offer any assistance. The veteran actor admitted that simply talking about his elder son still caused him deep emotional pain.
