Adapted from the novel Jin Yin Cuo (金银错) by You Si Jie, Sea of No Return (归良辰) is a historical romance drama starring Li Yunrui and Sally Liu Xiening who has leveled up from supporting roles to the female lead in recent projects. Filming lasted from March 6, 2026 to June 10, 2026.
Li Yunrui plays Nanyuan Wang Yuwen Liangshi. Outwardly gentle and scholarly, he is in fact calculating and deeply ambitious, burdened by a long-standing family vendetta and a desire to overturn imperial rule. Liu Xiening plays Murong Jun, the Grand Princess of Daye who is entrusted with the fate of her nation. Set against the backdrop of a political marriage, the drama centers on a battle of wits and power between two equally formidable protagonists. It looks like we’re gonna end up with tragic lovers, given how the story has the male lead plotting his way to the top.
With the backlash over his last drama due to age gap, this brings a new onscreen pairing with both leads being the same age at 29 years old, which should be more well-received. However, the industry seems to be experiencing “fatigue” in that dramas with traffic stars don’t seem to be doing as well as expected, so it may take more than usual to be able to stand out.
