At Youku’s annual conference held recently, the platform announced sequel plans for nine dramas in one go. Among them, the most anticipated include The Legend of Zang Hai 2 (藏海传2), Blood River 2 (暗河传2), and The Immortal Ascension 2 (凡人修仙传2).
The Legend of Zang Hai 2’s concept poster hinted that the sequel will continue unresolved plotlines from Season 1. Its predecessor starring Xiao Zhan set a record with the highest Youku heat index in 2025 and sweeping rankings across Lighthouse, Maoyan, and Yunhe. The sequel is expected to further explore mysteries surrounding the Ghost Seal and the secrets of the Bronze Gate. Meanwhile, Blood River 2 will once again be helmed by director Yin Tao and writer Zhou Munan. Gong Jun is reportedly confirmed to return as Su Muyu, but no cast has been officially announced.
At the event, Youku revealed plans for sequels for many more upcoming dramas, including Riverside Code at Qingming Festival 2 (清明上河图密码2), The Blood of Youth 2 (少年歌行2), The Immortal Ascension 2 (凡人修仙传), green lit following the huge hit that starred Yang Yang, Unveil: Jadewind 2 (青雾凤鸣2), Regeneration 2 (新生2), whose sequel has sparked debate as viewers questioned the point to the sequel given the ending. Meanwhile, the long-running franchise of Love Stories in the Countryside is going on its 19th season (乡村爱情19).
Fans have no doubt been calling for the original cast lineup to return, especially the stars of the show. Youku had stated that it will strive to “retain the core creative team,” although it appears specific details have not yet been finalized.
