At age 68, Tony Leung Ka-fai has just won Best Actor at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards for his performance in the 2025 film The Shadow’s Edge. Taking the stage, the veteran actor opened his speech with a lighthearted “OK, very good!”, drawing laughter from the audience. He noted that this year’s ceremony coincides with his 44th year in the film industry, making the nomination especially meaningful. “Whether I win or not, it’s already a lifelong honor for me,” he said. He went on to thank the film’s cast and crew, his management team, and his family, saying: “They’ve put up with me for 44 years, especially my wife. Very thankful.”
This marks Tony Leung Ka-fai’s fifth Best Actor win at the Hong Kong Film Awards, second only to Tony Leung Chiu-wai, who holds the record with six. Interestingly, the two are often confused as they share the same English name, “Tony Leung”, and are both highly-esteemed actors in the industry.
Tony Leung Ka-fai is known for his remarkable versatility, excelling in comedy, drama, and ruthless villain roles. From Reign Behind the Curtain (1984) and 92 Legendary La Rose Noire (1993), to Election (2006), Cold War (2013), and most recently The Shadow’s Edge (2026), his Best Actor wins span 42 years. With at least one major win in every decade, he truly stands as a legendary actor in Hong Kong cinema.

Seriously, there are no younger talents in the HK film and drama industry all these decades? Every year, it seems the same few old actors & actresses win these awards. And the nominations are the very consistent as well.
Quite impossible. I smell big corruption !
