Chinese actress Zhang Yuqi has become the center of intense controversy after past allegations resurfaced. Ge Xiaoqian, the ex-wife of Zhang Yuqi’s former husband Yuan Bayuan, publicly accused the actress of violating China’s strict laws on surrogacy. Ge claimed that Zhang’s twins were born in July and October of 2017, three months apart, raising doubts about natural childbirth. She called on Zhang Yuqi to release official birth documents to clarify the situation. In addition to the surrogacy claims, she presented notarized passport records and other alleged “evidence.” She accused Zhang of interfering in her marriage, alleging that Zhang frequently entered the shared residence with Yuan Bayuan before their relationship had formally ended.
Meanwhile, Zhang Yuqi’s past remarks about luxury spending resurfaced, including statements such as “699 yuan cannot buy a pair of socks” and claims that diamonds under one carat as worthless, which were criticized as out of touch with ordinary life.
This is not the first time the actress has faced such allegations. In the past, she shared a photo where she’s visibly pregnant seemingly in response to the allegations. This time, however, the controversy appears to have led to consequences. Several brand-related posts featuring Zhang Yuqi on social media can no longer be found. She’s no longer in the lineup for Liaoning TV’s Spring Festival Gala. There are also rumors that she may be replaced in the upcoming SHErlock season 3 where she’s part of the regular cast.
