Hong Kong actor Gabriel Harrison has stepped forward to clarify the situation regarding his makeup artist wife Effie Mok after his sudden cry for help via Instagram went viral last week. He had said that he needed to raise money due to his wife’s illness and even reiterated that he’s not a scammer.
A Moment of Helplessness and Fear
In a recent statement, the 52-year-old actor wrote, “Hello everyone, I’m actor Gabriel Harrison. First of all, I want to sincerely thank everyone for your concern and support for me and my family. My wife was recently rushed to Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong due to her health condition and was diagnosed with acute liver failure. After consulting with the doctors, we learned that her situation is very serious and not optimistic.” He revealed that she’s now receiving treatment in Guangzhou after being transferred from Hong Kong. However, her condition deteriorated further, requiring admission to the ICU.
Since there might be a chance for a liver donor match, the actor needed to understand the medical costs, which based on calculations could exceed one million dollars when additional treatments are included. Harrison admitted that his family’s financial resources had been stretched thin and that his initial video appeal came from a place of fear and desperation.
Thankful for the Overwhelming Support
Since his plea, Gabriel Harrison has received overwhelming support, including help from Louis Koo, Eric Tsang, and colleagues at his agency Sky Team Entertainment. He expressed gratitude towards everyone and also asked for understanding as he focuses on coordinating with medical staff and caring for his wife. “My wife’s condition changes daily. I need to stay by her side and with my family.” He hopes that his recent update can clear up misunderstandings and he thanks everyone for their attention, support, and prayers. He also shared a photo of himself holding his wife’s hand, asking the public to send their blessings and prayers for her recovery.
