After a bit of uncertainty following co-star Eleanor Lee’s controversy, Cheng Yi and Gulinazha’s transmigration wuxia series The Journey of Legend 赴山海 joins the list of early autumn releases, set to air on iQIYI and Tencent this September 11, 2025. Adapted from Wen Ruian’s novel Shen Zhou Qi Xia, Cheng Yi plays a modern day office worker named Xiao Mingming. Overwhelmed by the daily grind he secretly dreams of becoming a martial arts hero. Thanks to his novels, he unexpectedly finds himself thrown smack into the world of his own novel where he becomes Xiao Qiushui.
As a student of the Huanhua Sword school, Xiao Qiushui has limited martial arts skills. But with hard work, Xiao Qiushui gradually comes into his own as a martial artist. From a naïve and passionate rookie, he slowly transforms into a true hero of his family and his country.
The Journey of Legend also stars Eleanor Lee, Xu Zhenxuan, Liu Mengrui and Ding Xiaoying whilst also featuring appearances from Lu Songxian, Zhao Huawei and Zhang Zhilin.
Eleanor Lee “Reinstated” as Tang Fang
The Journey of Legend’s final casting line-up and premiere date announcement are undoubtedly a big relief for Singaporean actress Eleanor Lee. In fact, shortly after its official announcement earlier, Eleanor quickly reaffirmed she is far from cancelled by sharing a poster of her character Tang Fang minutes after the show made the post.
When allegations that she insulted China surfaced back in May, speculation was rife that her scenes will likely be edited out or reshot either with a different actress or via AI face swap. At the time, Eleanor’s name was noticeably removed from the show’s promotional materials, sparking fears that the drama’s release may even have to be pushed back further because of the controversy.
Fortunately, her former assistant admitted she was the one who faked the audio clip that caused such an uproar to the actress’ showbiz career.
