Mario Ho, son of late casino mogul Stanley Ho, hits another huge milestone as he becomes the youngest shareholder of his favourite NBA team, the Boston Celtics. The 30-year-old entrepreneur previously shared he’s been a big Celtics fan since uni (he went to MIT for his undergraduate degree), with Kayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown being his favourites. Now that he’s the youngest team owner in the league, he said it was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream as a basketball fan.

I’m proud to announce I’ve become a co-owner and board member of the Boston Celtics! Thank you Bill, for letting me join the consortium and this record breaking deal. As a lifelong Celtics fan, I’ll continue to give my everything to the organization; the responsibilities officially start now! Tears of joy cloud my eyes as I write all this, this is undoubtedly one of the happiest moments of my life …”

In March of this year, the Celtics franchise was successfully acquired by a consortium led by Symphony Tech Group co-founder William Chisholm for a staggering US$ 6.1 billion. Mario joined as a co-owner, after going through a rigorous vetting process that included a background check and securing approvals from various representatives. With him onboard, he says he hopes to promote the team’s activities in the Chinese market including hosting competitions and cultural exchanges between China and the US.

Mario Ho is the fourth son of Stanley Ho. Last year, his e-sports company NIP Group successfully went public in the US, making him not only the chairman and CEO of China’s first e-sports stock, but also the youngest founder of a NASDAQ-listed company in Asia. His latest foray into the NBA franchise marks another first as he becomes the youngest co-owner of the team.
