In 2023, Chinese actor Li Yapeng revealed he has been struggling financially after a failed real estate investment left him with a whopping RMB 40 million (~US$ 5.5 million) debt. Because he was unable to pay the amount, he was sued in court again and was subjected by the court to an enforcement. In order to make good on payments to his creditors, Li Yapeng works long hours to make a living through online live-streaming.
Standing By Each Other to Pay Off His Debt
According to his wife Haiha Jinxi, her husband is still working hard to pay off his debts. Although they’ve had to downgrade from their villa to a smaller apartment to ease the financial strain, she says there’s absolutely no truth to the rumours that they’re getting divorced. If anything, the former beauty queen is very adamant that she’s standing by her man. Not only is she helping him generate more income to pay off his debts by also working as livestreamer, she said she’s just an ordinary girl who’s easily contented and doesn’t place too much to living a wealthy life.
When asked why her husband didn’t return to acting to pay off his debts more easily, Jinxi revealed that no one has come a-knocking to appear in anymore dramas. “I also hoped that he will return to filming, but I understand very much why he isn’t. Because part of being an actor is pretending to live another person’s life, and he also his own life goals he wants to achieve.”
Li Yapeng was previously married to Cantopop star Faye Wong with whom he shares a 19-year-old daughter. The couple married in 2005 and later divorced in 2013. In 2014, he took a step back from show business to focus on business. The former actor married his current wife Jinxi in 2022 and they have a daughter named Li Xia.
