Retro drama Sheng Feng Qi Shi 生逢其时 starring Guan Xiaotong and Wang Ziqi has officially wrapped filming recently. Set in a small factory town up north during the early 90s, the story follows the lives of Qi Shi, a girl with albinism and Cao Xin, a prodigy in everyone’s eyes, and their two very different fates. 1990s China was a period of great change, and through Qi Shi and Cao Xin’s stories, viewers will get a glimpse of the times in each of their struggles as they live and grow within different family environments and social expectations.
Guan Xiaotong plays Qi Shi, with her bleached short hair and light eyebrows grew up unvalued and unappreciated by her family due to her condition. However, her experiences have made her tougher, a trait that served her well to fight prejudice and grow her business. In sharp contrast, from a “wonder child” who was born with all the advantages and suffering from all the expectations from his family, Cao Xin began to question and doubt his self-worth. Will they both manage to break free from the limitations of their upbringing and carve out their own life paths?
Sheng Feng Qi Shi is a family drama directed by Lin Yan with the screenplay written by Qian Jingjing. The series also features a couple of powerful actors in the cast. Liu Lin reunites with Guo Tao to play a noisy but inseparable couple whilst Guo Xiaodong plays Guan Xiaotong’s father in the series.
