After a six-year legal battle with her former record label, Hong Kong pop star G.E.M. (Gloria Tang Tsz-kei) has re-recorded her earlier songs and released them as a new album titled I AM GLORIA. The 33-year-old singer wrote, “Who would have thought I haven’t received royalties for my old songs for over six years?” she wrote. “Yes, six years of royalties. Not a single cent.”
Signed at 15, Locked Away Her Music
The singer described how a signature she made at age 15 “based on trust” had locked her away from her own music for years. “Taking one step backward meant I had to walk six years in circles,” she said. Despite the pain, she emphasized that this is “not a story of revenge, but a story of resurrection and redemption” as she finally decided to reclaim her work by re-recording the music herself.
Industry Peers Rally Behind Her
The music industry has shown overwhelming support. Singer Li Ronghao reposted her announcement with a short but strong message: “It’s out now. Jiayou!” Gloria Tang replied playfully, “Thanks, godfather.” Huang Xiaoyun also voiced encouragement: “The sky has no limits. Break free and fly toward a bluer tomorrow. Keep blooming, my dear Jie Jie!”
An impressive list of stars have either liked, shared, or commented in support—including Wang Leehom, Rainie Yang, Jackson Wang, Miriam Yeung, Ouyang Nana, Li Chen, rapper NINEONE and more. As Gloria Tang put it: “Support a creator who is fighting to speak again. Support a mother doing everything to reunite with her ‘children.’”
