Chinese actor Xiao Shenyang’s daughter Shen Jiarun is all grown up and ready to conquer the world as K-pop solo artist NINA! As the first solo artist of her label BNB Music, her first mini-album titled “Never Afraid” will be dropping on June 19, 2025. Quite an apt title for a 19-year-old who’s eager to make her mark on the world.
Back in May, Jiarun’s appearance as the mystery guest in her dad’s concert caused a stir amongst concert attendees in his hometown of Shenyang. Although she sang and danced confidently during her performance, concert goers had mixed reviews. Many praised her steady stage presence and her confidence which they say was way mature for her age whilst others said her performance ‘surpassed some professional idols’. Others meanwhile begged to differ.
From “Ugliest Celebrity Kid” to a Kpop Solo Artist
It can be remembered that when Jiarun made her first public appearance on the reality show The Firsts in Life back in 2013, she was unfortunately bashed by trolls for being ugly. From her eyelids to her face shape and even her teeth, poor Jiarun was even called the ugliest celebrity kid back then. Imagine the trauma for a 7 or 8-year-old kid. Whilst her dad was livid about the undeserved criticism, Jiarun thoughtfully said she resembles her dad and that she’s proud of it.
Well, here we are a couple of years later and it looks like the joke’s on her bashers after all. Because the kid they used to call ugly back is now making her debut as a solo Kpop artist. The 19-year-old has clearly grown into her features, and some have even started comparing her looks now to a young Gong Hyo-jin!
