It’s another one for the books as Resident Playbook, the spin-off to the highly successful Hospital Playlist franchise, hits a new high in the ratings with its finale. Starring Go Youn-jung, Shin Si-a, Kang You-seok, Han Ye-ji and Jung Joon-won as the resident doctors-in-training, the show’s record breaking final episode secured a rating of 10% in viewership. Considering how they began with 3.6% during their first episode, it’s really an ending anyone can hope for.
Season Two Forthcoming?
Seeing how the show like its predecessor, captured so many hearts, it’s inevitable that all the chatter turns to calls for a potential second season. “Looking forward to the second season! Each episode just gets better than the previous one. And the cameos of the original cast from Hospital Playlist bring back memories” commented one viewer. Indeed we’ve seen a few crossovers from the Hospital Playlist characters who made cameos at the Yulje Hospital’s Jongno branch. With multiple connections amongst the characters in the fictional Yulje Medical Centre world, the possibilities for new stories and new seasons are endless.
Speaking of sequels, when asked by media about reprising her role for a potential season two, lead actress Go Youn-jung admits that half of her wants to do it and half of her feels worried. It seems the actress who played OB-GYN Oh Yi-young isn’t too keen to once again be the main protagonist in the sequel. “If the second season of Resident Playbook really pushes through, I think it’ll be fun to have Oh Yi-young appear as a guest star just to show that she’s doing well” … kinda like an epilogue of sorts.
Moreover she said that if Yi-young did appear as the protagonist in the sequel, does that mean Yi-Young still hasn’t leveled-up? “That doesn’t sound good. By that time, we should have become more experienced and clever, and there will be new first year residents whose stories may be more interesting. If this is the case, I am willing to participate as a guest star many times”.
