Several stars in Taiwan’s entertainment industry are currently in the hot seat following the Taiwanese government’s recent crackdown on stars for their alleged ‘sensitive conduct’. On May 15, a senior Taiwanese cross-straights affairs confirmed they’ve identified more than 20 celebrities who might be facing punishment if found guilty of spreading “Chinese propaganda.” Amongst these, actress Ouyang Nana has been identified to be under administrative review. It is also reported that more than 20 other stars are also being investigated.
Back in March, celebs like Patty Hou, Mark Chao, Joe Chen, Michelle Chen, Ouyang Nana and Angela Zhang raised eyebrows when they reposted a CCTV post which Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council found offensive. Ouyang Nana who has never been shy of professing her support for unification has often made pro-China comments. It’s probably also the reason why she’s supposedly listed as a “special administrative subject”.
Whilst the MAC said that they respect Taiwanese artists choice to pursue careers in the mainland, they draw the line towards actions influencing public opinion and morale in Taiwan. If found guilty, stars can face up to NT$500,000 (~ US$ 16,580) in fines.

What a laugh! So much for democracy and freedom of speech and expression.
They have already imprisoned many alleged political dissidents without charge or trial, some for extended periods of time. Hope they imprison some of these celebrities too so that the people will know where people have disappeared to. The Taiwan authorities wish they were back to Chiang Kai-shek’s times so that they could do all these things openly.
haha
meanwhile china does do all these things openly in the present time lol. don’t agree with the Taiwan govt but these celebrities are getting fined small change that they can easily pay. don’t need to get all defensive on their behalf.

Yes, at least China is not hypocritical. It announces its stand, enacted its laws and enforced it. Nothing hidden there. Everyone knows where they stand.
Not like some, pretending that their rioting, destroying public property and injuring people were all about defending freedom of speech and human rights. And when people do exercise their freedom to disagree or to criticise, they go after them, even imprisoning them for months without charge or trial.
Not defensive on their behalf- don’t even know half the names mentioned, nor whether they could afford to pay the fines or not. It’s about the hypocrisy of Taiwan. I prefer my enemies to be open and upfront about their feelings towards me rather than “hiding a knife behind the smile.”
