Weak Hero Class 2 is finally out on Netflix. As a new fan of Weak Hero Class 1 who just watched the show recently, I was really excited for the second season. And while it didn’t hit the same, it was still binge-worthy — I marathoned it straight to the end.
The biggest problem? Everything felt rushed.
Season 1 took its time introducing Yeon Si-eun, Soo-ho, and Beom-seok. Watching how their bond slowly formed made the story emotional and impactful, especially with how painfully it ended. Season 2 brings back Park Ji-hoon as Yeon Si-eun, who’s still reeling from those events, and this time, he meets new faces: Ryeo Un as Park Hu-min, Lee Min-jae as Hyeon-tak, and Choi Min-young as Jun-tae. It’s a completely new dynamic with four unlikely friends, but this time there’s not enough buildup. They meet, and suddenly they’re tight. As a result, the emotional weight didn’t quite land the way it did in the first season.
It probably didn’t help that I had expectations going in, having read the manhwa. It’s understandable that not everything could fit into just eight episodes, but that choice definitely affected the pacing and character depth. That said, season 2 goes bigger in many ways, especially with the fight scenes — lots of intense action throughout. While it didn’t feel as impactful overall, Weak Hero Class 2 offers solid performances and interesting characters, including Lee Jun-young, who adds a standout K-drama role as Geum Seong-je even it he seems like a combination of the manhwa villains rolled into one.
