Yikes, it seems what should’ve been a relaxing holiday in Barcelona just turned sour for Chinese actor Sun Jian who was targeted by thieves last night. And on his first day to boot! From CCTV footage he shared, it seems the thieves attempted to steal his bag twice and only managed to do so on the second try when he was on his phone. “Someone asked me if the seat next to me was occupied. I said yes, and then they asked if the other side was taken. I said yes and took my bag to put it on the seat to show the seat was taken. I didn’t notice the bag was gone until after my call.”
He said his passport, mobile phone, ear phones, wallet and card holder were all gone. To make things worst he had to go to three police stations before they were able to report the incident since the first two claimed they were about to clock off and close. Sun Jian said there was still half an hour left when they arrived at the station before closing time.

Although the incident probably left him shaken, the actor asked everyone not to worry and said that he’s fine. “Life is a constant experience with people always on the move. We will encounter all kinds of things in life. As long as we are safe and healthy …” Nonetheless, he once again reminded everyone to pay attention when overseas. “When you encounter these things, I’m very glad we live in such as safe country.”

UPDATE:
The actor just gave an update a little while ago that they’d been burgled once again! That’s twice in three days! “We had breakfast in a five-star hotel and two staff member’s bags were stolen. It’s outrageous. Is there really no one in Barcelona overseeing this place? The police don’t seem to care either.”

That’s my friend’s experience too when she and family went on a trip to the Scandinavian countries last year. Her brother lost his wallet to pickpockets. Pickpockets and thieves are actually very common in Europe and they like to target the Chinese (or Chinese looking people) because they think they carry a lot of cash.

How can he be so naive? The pickpocket problem is well known and every tourist is warned about. Also he surely should have learned from his peers. Did he thought he was untouchable?
