Missing Chinese Actor Wang Xing Found, Rescued from Suspected Scam Operation

Chinese actor Wang Xing (王星), reported missing on January 3, has officially been rescued on the afternoon of January 7. The Chinese Embassy in Thailand expressed gratitude to the Thai government and other involved parties for their effective efforts in locating and rescuing him. The case highlights the ongoing problem of cross-border scams, which continue to thrive, leading to illegal activities such as online gambling, human trafficking, and forced labor in scam hubs.

Actor’s Disappearance Sparks a Cross-Border Search

Wang Xing’s disappearance gained widespread attention after his girlfriend reported him missing on social media. Though he is an unknown actor, his case went viral as fellow celebrities and netizens rallied to amplify the call for help. Wang Xing had traveled to Thailand believing it was for a film project but vanished shortly after arriving, raising fears of human trafficking.

The timeline was reported to be as follows: Wang arrived at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on January 3 at around 2:00 AM. He was picked up by a man driving a car, but by 11:00 AM, he lost contact shortly after reportedly switching from the sedan to a pickup truck. By January 6, he had been found in Myanmar near the Thai border. Wang Xing’s younger brother confirmed his identity during a video call, stating that while Wang is physically safe, he appears mentally distressed. Thai media released a recent photo showing Wang with a shaved head and dressed in white athletic clothes. Coordination between Myanmar and Thai officials ensured that Wang would be handed over and returned to Thailand for repatriation to China.

Upon Arrival, His Head Was Shaved

Wang Xing also gave an interview to Thai media. According to the media, he revealed that he was deceived into coming to perform, but upon arrival, he was shaved, locked in a building with 50 other Chinese people, and forced to practice typing. He believed he was being made to work for a scam center.

While Wang Xing is fortunate to have been found and is now safe, the incident also raises concerns about others who may be trapped in similar situations, with many people being lured under false pretenses.
