Recently, Chinese actress Rosy Zhao Lusi’s appearance has sparked a lot of discussion. A number of Netizens have been saying her facial features have changed and that she looked better in her early years compared to now. In a livestream, the 25-year-old star addressed the comments she’s been hearing saying, “I don’t know whether to be happy or not.”
She said, “Recently, everyone has been saying I looked better before, but back then, no one was actually saying I looked good. And now, they’re saying I used to look good.” Zhao continued, asking, “Should I be happy or not? It feels like people only realize this now…” Adding a touch of humor, she challenged those who once criticized her looks. “So I was actually good-looking before, right?” she said. “Those who used to call me ugly, come forward!”
Zhao Lusi has come a long way to be among the popular actresses of her generation. Though still young, she’s been changing styles to give a much more mature appearance. It’s not the first time Zhao addressed this topic as there were voices that her transformation was due to plastic surgery. Back then, the actress said that she looks prettier now because of “hard work, weight loss, and makeup.”

Of course, male actors have been similarly scrutinised and talked about. You might not have noticed because they are not as high profile as Zhao LS. And male actors’ ps are not as dramatic as Zhao’s. Many other female actresses also had ps, but maybe not as obvious as Zhao. At least, they are all still recognizable. Zhao LS really looks quite different. Not just a nip here or there. I didn’t recognise her new face when I first saw the Olympic flame photo if the caption didn’t name her. And I have watched 2 or 3 of her dramas.

I find a plastic surgery trend in Chinese entertainment industry quite disturbing. They chose rather similar faces in last 5+ years and as they are heavily altered and untrained, they lose a lot on character acting. Most shows have similar atmosphere and actors are unable to pull-of anything outside of their comfort zone. And their comfort zone is very narrow one. It’s a pity that high traffic physically altered stars get so much attention, while Chinese acting school used to be unique and excellent, top one. Actors of 1000 faces cannot be found in new publicly favoured group, including her. I dislike what she did with her lips, and that is also extremely popular in China, That bump in middle of upper lip gives me cringe feel I just hope that at one moment audience will get tired of all that sameness.

Everyone with eyes can see her nose has changed. And her lips are much fuller now than ever before.
