Taiwanese singer and actress Vivian Hsu says she’s doing fine after undergoing surgery for thyroid cancer. In a social media post, the 49-year-old star shared for the first time today her struggles against the illness. Vivian shared the operation on her throat had her out of commission for two to three months but that she’s thankfully on the mend. After being unable to practice or perform, she’s now working hard to recover her strength and her voice.
“I feel very lucky” she said. Even if the wind is blowing against her direction and the road ahead is bumpy, she believes everyone must strive to live a good life each day. Being a mum to a young child, the star says it’s very important for her to stay strong and healthy for her son. But despite her efforts to have good healthy habits when it comes to her diet and exercise, Vivian says the cancer gene is inherited in her family. Which is why she says she’s grateful her family makes it a habit to get regular check-ups and that her cancer was detected and treated early on.
“Having a positive attitude in the face of challenges enabled me to have a strong and brave conviction. In the two or three months post-op, I was unable to perform” she shared. But Vivian said she worked to rehabilitate her throat, from massages and physical therapy, she was able to get rid of the numbness and recover quickly so that she can sing well again for everyone. She added that after her wound healed, she started taking singing lessons since the position of her muscles changed after surgery. Though it took her some time, she was finally able to do it.
“Don’t worry, I am fine now”.
