The Story of Pearl Girl 珠帘玉幕 has concluded its 40-episode run yet the ending underscored some inevitable regrets. “Open ending” was the trending hashtag when the finale first aired and that’s what we get.
Duanwu / Su Muzhe (Zhao Lusi) achieved her long-cherished dreams, firmly establishing herself in Yangzhou, being chosen as the female leader of the jewelry guild. Yet her business success was shadowed by personal loss. After a night spent together, she discovers Yan Zijing (Liu Yuning) has vanished. The ending suggests poison took his life, though his fate remains deliberately ambiguous. Wearing his ring, Su Muzhe vows never to marry, dedicating herself to fulfilling their shared dream of exploring the world as she leaves behind her post to Cui Zhuohua (Xie Keyin). Su Muzhe’s final words at the ending scene reflect her decades of travel, poignantly summing up her journeys after forty years.
SO this managed to be yet another Chinese drama where there were many deaths. Cai Zhuohua was left with a lifetime of regret as she was too late in reciprocating Zhang Zhiheng’s (Tang Zhenchao) love for her. Zhang Jinran (Tang Xiaotian) chose to protect Su Muzhe as a confidante until the end. Villains Ying Wang (Edward Zhang) and Yuchi Wuyi (Shen Tai) were taken down at a steep cost. It’s even more frustrating since Yuchi Wuyi had the antidote for Yan Zijing! Seriously, Liu Yuning has been racking up dramas where his character dies (someone give his character a happy ending, please!).

So, is Liu Yuning turning into China’s Sean Bean? xD

In C-drama, dying on screen comes with a literal cash bonus. They get a red envelop. Something extra to buy you a few bottles of bai jiu to share. Everybody is happy. Hahaha.

It’s ok he is just raking in the money! Haha

It appears that the main characters in all Netflix Chinese movies never have happy endings, They kill everyone off. Why can’t they just live happily ever after.
It may be that people may stop watching them. If those that fall for each, never end up together.

love the movie, but terrible ending. can’t even rate it because of such terrible, frustrating ending. seriously!!!
is all they want is death & killing the good characters.
There is her parents. Shrimp, Loud, Cao, lady Wu, Yan Zijing and many others. Makes no sense

Great movie. Excellence in all areas of acting plus a great plot. I melt when Yan looks at Duanwu, his eyes really transmit his feelings. Wu Zheng also did a great acting job. He shows his frustration with the Zheng elder who happens to be his father. Duanwu an Yan were both from the Yan clan. If you live long enough you realize things don’t always work out as you would expect or desire.
