Hong Kong actress Irene Wan and Mongolian-Russian actress Naran (Narana Erdyneeva) recently appeared in red carpet photos together. The 27-year-old model-actress, fluent in Mandarin, is a rising star in China. Both channeled the captivating aura of Su Daji, the infamous femme fatale from Chinese mythology, dressed to the nines in their gowns.
Su Daji in TV and Film
Irene Wan, now 58, played Su Daji in her thirties in the 2001 drama Gods of Honour, bringing to life a character that is iconic to this day. Meanwhile, Naran, who recently rose to fame as Su Daji in the blockbuster movie Creation of the Gods, brought a very different, raw approach to the character, with literal mannerisms of a fox. Naran has certainly become this generation’s Su Daji.
A prominent figure in Chinese mythology and literature, Su Daji is often depicted as a manipulative and enchanting fox spirit who brings ruin to the Shang Dynasty through her beauty and cunning. This mythical role has been played by several notable actresses over the years, from Irene Wan to stars like Fan Bingbing, Gillian Chung, and Ruby Lin.
