Kai Ko and Cheryl Yang recently made headlines for appearing together at Delia Tseng’s birthday celebration, marking the first time they’ve been seen together in years. Their reunion sparked rumors of a possible reconciliation after years of tension reportedly due to singer Elva Hsiao.
Cheryl Yang, 46, and Elva Hsiao, 45, were once inseparable friends in the entertainment industry, sharing a bond that spanned 16 years. Despite their friendship, the two were said to have clashing personalities. Tensions reportedly emerged when Elva Hsiao became romantically involved with her then younger boyfriend Kai Ko. Cheryl Yang reportedly expressed concern over Hsiao’s tendency to let romantic relationships derail her career and encouraged her to prioritize herself. This advice was not well-received, and the rift between the two friends grew, leading to their eventual estrangement since 2017. It’s reported that Cheryl Yang’s decision to sign with Elva Hsiao’s old management company was also a factor though both denied any issues back then.
However, in a recent interview on the Chinese variety show Ride the Wind 2024, Cheryl Yang shared her thoughts on a “friendship that couldn’t go back to how it was,” sparking speculation that she was referring to her relationship with Elva Hsiao. Yang revealed she had tried to mend things, but some things “could never return to how they were.”
Nevertheless, the appearance of Kai Ko and Cheryl Yang together at Delia Tseng’s event—hosted by Taiwanese businessman Terry Gou’s wife—seems to symbolize a step toward leaving old tensions behind.
