Taiwanese actress Ning Chang, often known by her English name Janine Chang, recently took to social media to clarify some confusion regarding her name. In a lighthearted post, Ning explained that while her actual name is written as “𡩋,” the rare traditional Chinese character is often replaced by “甯” due to display issues in digital formats. This common substitution has led to misunderstandings over time. Ning posted, “Though ‘𡩋’ is my real name, it’s often substituted with ‘甯’ because the ancient character doesn’t display properly. There seems to have been some miscommunication with the media, leading to a misunderstanding. I’m not changing my name! Sorry for the confusion!”
In her post, she humorously addressed the situation with hashtags such as #NotRenaming and #EvenMyEnglishNameGetsMisunderstood, shedding light on how even her English name has sparked confusion over the years. While many fans know her as “Janine Chang,” she clarified that her English name is actually “Ning Chang.” The actress also said that the French-inspired name, “Janine,” is frequently mispronounced.
At 42 years old, Ning Chang has transitioned from her early days in Taiwanese dramas to starring and even producing projects as she focused on a career in Mainland China over the past decade or so.
