[Warning: SPOILERS AHEAD] The recent farewell post by actress Li Qin for the finale of Snowy Night Timeless Love (七夜雪) stirred quite a discussion online. In her post, Li Qin included an excerpt from the original novel by Cang Yue written for the male lead, Huo Zhanbai. However, what drew some criticism was that she shared an accompnying photo of herself with the second male lead, played by Wang Hongyi, rather than the male lead, Joseph Zeng Shunxi. This sparked debates, questioning if there was tension between the leads as fans support their faves.

What Happens to Xue Ziye? It’s Tragic on Another Level
Yet, many supported Li Qin’s choice, since it’s literally a shot of her character Xue Ziye’s final moments, dying in Miao Feng’s arms. In a way, Li Qin’s message about Huo Zhanbai echoed the novel’s ending, where Xue Ziye’s was with Miao Feng, but her heart remained with Huo Zhanbai.
And can we talk about the most “heartbreaking” ending ever? This is on a whole new level of tragic Chinese drama finales. To save Tong (Edward Chen) from poison, Xue Ziye sacrificed herself by transferring the poison to her own body. Miao Feng did everything he could to take her back to Apothecary Village as she lay dying. They crossed paths with Huo Zhanbai, who didn’t even see her because she was under his cloak. Just like that, they missed their last chance to see each other and say goodbye. When Huo Zhanbai realized Xue Ziye was in danger and rushed back to the valley, it was already too late.
Netizens joked that Xue Ziye, the female protagonist, didn’t even make it to the finale in episode 32, as she died just one episode before, leaving Huo Zhanbai by the tombstone under the plum tree—where longing and loss echoed through every scene. So we have the finale where the three male leads are mourning the loss of the heroine. How much sadder can it get?

Didn’t see the whole drama but I peaked at the 2 last eps. It’s funny because I came across a fanmade mv made back in 2020 and saw it while this was airing so already spoiled lol. Definitely more on the sadder endings between leads as they both slightly missed each other. FL didn’t make it to the last ep but the ep was mainly about her character so she’s spiritually there 😂.

I think the more appropriate question is “how much sillier can it get?”.
