Dashing Youth (少年白马醉春风) has dropped promos to celebrate its finale today, but fans of Hou Minghao and He Yu continue to clash. While the show has performed well, hitting the milestone 10,000 heat index on the platform, the general consensus is that Dashing Youth, a prequel to The Blood of Youth, just doesn’t compare. Some attribute this to poor writing, but fans of the two actors pin the blame on each other.
Hou Minghao plays the main protagonist, Baili Dongjun, but some feel his character’s journey is smoother than He Yu’s Ye Yun, making his story and even his romance with Hu Lianxin’s character less compelling. Some fans argue that Hou Minghao was sidelined—not just in the drama, where they say key action scenes were missing, but also in the way the show was promoted.

Anyone familiar with the novel knows that He Yu’s character is destined to die, and his tragic storyline resonates with viewers. Ye Yun’s transformation into Ye Dingzhi, the leader of the demonic sect, and the scene where he commits suicide and dies in the arms of his best friend, Baili Dongjun, and his lover, played by Jiang Zhenyu, is a particularly touching moment. Yet, the comment section remains a battleground. Hou’s fans thank the actor for a job well done but declare they are done with the show now that it has ended its entire run. They’ve also hinted at a “thief,” implying that He Yu was given more than his fair share of screen time. Meanwhile, He Yu’s fans have struck back, criticizing Hou Minghao’s skills, looks and claiming he lacks achievements as an actor.

Was the star of the show… But I agree the hero almost looked childish.. His love story was also
Lackluster. The pain of He Yu… Be was the main lead.. From losing his whole clan and the woman he loved… How could your heart not go out to him? I prefer
Dark hero’s anti heroz anyways he one my
Heart ❤️

Just look at that last photo… could you tell that his best friend in the whole wide world was dying in his arms? He really needs to let go and stop worrying about looking handsome.

LMAO 😂 But I guess that’s what most young international viewers like: no acting, just being pretty on camera with whatever romance they’re craving for.

Considering how many lead roles he’s had without substantial acting talent, same can be said about young chinese viewers. Don’t think it’s just an “international viewers” thing. The likes of him, Yang Yang, Song Weilong, and Ju Jingyi being in drama after drama is proof of that.

it can’t be help,he yu is the better actor, with compelling storyline.

It just that the Dashing Youth did not stand up to its original story that supposed to be about the adventure of the young brewmaster but it highlighted the angst of Ye Dingzi story.. I actually watched it to know how the brewmaster became known and good in martial arts but it sad to say what the story did was to make the audience felt the suffering of Ye Dingzi.. so its understandable that some fans, specially of Neo Hou, (and I am one of them🙂), was dissapointed with the drama and its seems that Baili Dongjun character became the sideline in the drama and Ye Dingzi became the main hero.. maybe it was the fault of bad editing or writing of the writer.. and a lot of scene of Dongjun was cut out..
And in regards of being pretty boy Neo can’t help it because he’s really a good looking actor same as Heyu that’s why you like Heyu not just him being Ye Dingzi right?
And regarding the acting of Neo when his bestfriend died in his arm, its not that he just want to look pretty and being hurt doesn’t mean you need to cry out loud just to say you are a good actor but you have also to live with your character.. Baili needs to be rational and matured in that moment even he was so hurt because he has a lot in his shoulder as a son of a marquiz and he should show to Ye Dingzi that he is strong enough to take care of his son as well.. and Dongjun doesn’t have a revengeful soul because he was pampered and grew full of love from the people around him.. the truth is that the audience only care about the tragic moment of Ye Dingzi that’s why they didn’t feel the hurt of Dongjun.. but for me Neo did it well as Bailu Dongjun..
it just this drama has a wrong introduction to the audience saying it was the adventure of Baili Dongjun.. the other title of the drama was misleading 🙂
well to see the real adventure of Baili just need to watch the donghua..✌️

I actually love that scene. I repeat it many times. You can feel the restraint in Baili.Dongjun to cry out loud. Disbelief that his best friend is dying, panic while trying his best to stay calm. I love that scene so much. And yes, I am HMH’s fan. But I do acknowledge that his acting really has more room for improvement.
I used to think, too, that he’s being constrained by trying to look good haha. But eventually I realized that, no, he’s just really good looking lol.
Maybe it’s a problem of thinking and feeling too much like the character that it somehow defeats the purpose of acting. I heard it’s a common problem with actors.
