On February 7th each year, fans of Hua Chenyu eagerly await a familiar sight: the annual birthday post from their beloved idol. The singer-songwriter’s cute birthday tradition has surprisingly persisted for 11 years!
It all began in 2014, when Hua Chenyu, then a rising star in the Chinese music scene, celebrated his birthday sharing a photo of himself. With his head tilted to one side, a cap and eyeglasses, he playfully posed for the camera. Back then, the 24-year-old singer was fresh off his win from Hunan TV’s singing competition show 2013 Super Boy, captivating fans with his unique vocal style and charismatic performances.
Little did they know, this snapshot would mark the beginning of a yearly ritual. Despite the passing years, the pose remains unchanged now that the singer celebrates his 34th birthday wearing literally the exact same shirt, the same pose, a beanie and shades. Perhaps the only thing that’s noticeably different is his changing hairstyle, which is a shade of pink this year. Over the years, fans witnessed the emergence of a multifaceted artist, unafraid to push boundaries and challenge conventions.
In turn, Hua Chenyu’s legion of fans, collectively known as “Martians” celebrated their idol’s birthday with their own ritual of leaving personal introductions relating to his works in the comments section. The singer wrote a thank you to his fans and wished everyone well for the Dragon Year. Happy birthday, Hua Hua!
