We’re finally catching a first look at MBC’s Wonderful World whose trailer is finally out. After a six year absence from the industry, Kim Nam-joo dusts off her acting chops to star as a tortured mum. And boy, despite her absence, she definitely still has it. The 52-year-old actress stars as Eun Soo-hyun, a mum who doles out her own brand of justice after the legal system failed to put those responsible for her son’s tragic death behind bars. Starring opposite is 26-year-old idol-actor Cha Eun-woo who plays another tortured soul named Kwon Sun-yool. After dropping out of med school, the mysterious Kwon Sun-yool has led a hard life. The two cross paths as Soo-hyun embarks on her journey of revenge.
In the emotionally packed teaser, Soo-hyun continues to be haunted by the past events that broke her family. “It all started with the case from that day” she recounts. In the scenes that follow, flashbacks from the past and present fill the screen – a burning house, her laughing hysterically and painful scenes of her visiting her son’s grave.
Meanwhile, we are introduced to Sun-yool whose voice asks “do you think I’m living well? Do you know when humans are the most in pain?” Funny how he’s enigmatically dressed in black in almost all his scenes – you know how in dramas the mysterious person is always in black and sporting a cap? At this point we don’t really know yet what he is. Is he a villain? Or is he a secret witness? A person seeking atonement? As far as teasers go, it has definitely left a lot of questions. Guess we’ll just have to find out when the drama hits screens in March.
Wonderful World also stars Kim Kang-woo and Im Se-mi. It is directed by Lee Seung-young who is also the man behind the cameras for Tracer, Voice S2, Missing Noir M and Special Affairs Team TEN S2. Kim Ji-eun who wrote Cheongdamdong Scandal is the screenwriter for this one.
