After a 13 year absence from the Hong Kong entertainment scene, Athena Chu makes her showbiz return in the sequel to Viu TV’s The Parents League 反起跑線聯盟2. The 51-year-old actress replaces Gigi Leung who played the role of Nora in the original as the heroine of the sequel. In The Parents League 2, Athena stars as an elementary teacher. Chloe So plays her sister who’s also a single mum. Meanwhile, although Gigi had to sit this one out, the actress expressed her support for everyone on social media. “Missing my The Parent’s League big family! Good luck to the second season!” she wrote. Other than Gigi, the rest of the cast including Shirley Chan, Locker Lam, Fatboy and Florica Lin will all be returning.

The last time Athena Chu appeared in a Hong Kong drama, it was for 2010’s A Wall-less World: The Third Choice 沒有牆的世界:第三選擇. Her portrayal of a disabled woman made her the first Hong Kong actress to be nominated for an International Emmy for Best Actress. However, her career took a back seat following her marriage to Paul Wong – rock band Beyond’s lead guitarist in 2012, as she chose to focus on her husband and their growing family after their daughter Debbie was born in 2012. She’s also shifted her focus to the mainland in the past years. Filming has officially begun on the newest MakerVille project with the cast attending the blessing ceremony on August 24.
