Chinese-American singer-songwriter Coco Lee has died, her family announced. She was 48. Her sisters Carol and Nancy Lee broke the news about her sudden passing on July 5, 2023.
They shared that Coco had been suffering from depression since a few years ago. After a long battle, her condition unfortunately took a turn for the worse, and she committed suicide at home on July 2nd. She had been in a coma after being sent to the hospital and passed away today, July 5.
This year was Coco Lee’s 30th year since her debut. The singer who started her career in Hong Kong eventually made her way to US music charts. Her sisters paid tribute to Coco saying she brought endless joy and surprises with her singing and dancing, and worked even harder to open up a new world for Chinese singers in the international music scene. As Coco’s family, they are proud and honoured to have such an outstanding sister. They wrote, “hope that now she has gone to a happier place and no longer suffers from depression.” They also ask for everyone to also pray for their elderly mother and to give them the time and space to heal.
Finally, they said, “Although CoCo didn’t stay long in this world, her light will shine forever!” The news of Coco’s sudden passing has shocked the industry. Many have expressed their disbelief and mourned her loss.
