As always, lots of stars came out to play in this year’s edition of The Met Gala with the theme Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty as its inspiration. Fashion’s biggest night took place on May 1 at NYC’s iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art where it never fails to serve up all the looks ranging from understated to the quirkiest.
Amongst the Chinese celebs who sashayed down the red carpet in their Lagerfeld inspired looks are K-pop star Jackson Wang of GoT7 who attended in an all black custom LV ensemble and singer Cai Xukun who turned up in a sparkly bespoke Prada. Models Liu Wen and He Cong also made an appearance. Liu Wen walked the red carpet with designer Tory Burch who custom designed her black and white off-the shoulder dress with three dimensional camellias at the hem – an homage to Karl Lagerfeld’s time at French fashion house Patou. He Cong on the other hand was wearing Japanese brand Sacai. Meanwhile, Olympic gold medallist and model Eileen Gu wore designer Robert Wun’s quirkily dubbed “wine stain gown” for the star-studded event.
And speaking of K-pop stars, the lovely Jennie Kim from Blackpink was also spotted at the gala in a vintage white frock from French luxury house Chanel which Lagerfeld helmed from 1983 until his death in 2019. Likewise, this year’s Baeksang Award Best Actress winner Song Hye-kyo also put in an appearance wearing a nude pink lace and satin number from Italian luxury brand Fendi for whom Lagerfeld also designed for.
Moving over to Hollywood, Academy Award winners Michelle Yeoh and Ke Huy Quan also graced the event with Ke managing to channel the legendary designer’s iconic look for the evening. But! Surely this year’s award for the most original and crazy red carpet look should (IMHO) go to actor Jared Leto who came as Karl Lagerfeld’s beloved cat Choupette!
