The ladies of South Korean girl group I.O.I are celebrating their 7th anniversary this year. Can you believe it’s been 7 years since their debut? I can still remember the emotionally-laden scenes from the idol survival show. For this milestone, in spite of having no official fan meeting for the occasion, don’t you worry because I.O.I’s Chinese member Zhou Jieqiong has everyone covered. Despite being miles away, Jieqiong or Kyulkyung as she’s known in Korea, joined the ladies in blowing out the candles and celebrating together via video call. What a treat for fans to have a peek at what an I.O.I reunion looks like when she shared a short clip of their private party on Instagram.

I.O.I debuted back in 2016 with the top eleven from the survival talent show Produce 101 making up its members. These include Jeon So-mi, Kim Se-Jeong, Choi Yoo-Jung, Kim Chungha, Kim So-Hye, Zhou Jieqiong, Jung Chae-Yeon, Kim Do-Yeon, Kang Mi-na, Lim Na-Young and Yoo Yeon-Jung. Although there were talks previously about a comeback, it looks like that plan fell through.

Many of the ladies have gone on to have successful careers in showbiz after I.O.I’s disbandment in 2017. You’ll probably recognise a couple of them even if you’re not a fan of the show. In 2021, with the exception of Jieqiong who was probably stuck in China because of the pandemic and Kang Mi-Na, the rest of the ladies celebrated their 5th anniversary together in person. They held a reunion livestream which even Jieqiong managed to join via video call and fulfilled their five year promise to their fans. Hopefully we’ll be able to see all eleven members together one day soon.
